Smoky Mountain Southern Fried Green Tomato Recipe is the perfect solution to all the extra tomatoes from your garden. The HeySmokies.com culinary crew love nothing better than this tangy, savory, delicious fried dish. Here in the Smoky Mountain region we are blessed with some of the most amazing tomatoes in the world. Our neighbors to the north in Grainger County grow world renowned tomatoes and if we ever run low in our garden we hit the road to the tomato capital of the South. Once a year the Grainger County Tomato Festival is held late in July. This event is considered one of the ten best festivals in the state and a lot of fun for the entire family.

Smoky Mountain Southern Fried Green Tomato Recipe:

4 Large green tomatoes

Vegetable oil (as much as you need ie: QB)

1 1/2 Cups buttermilk

1 1/2 Cups yellow cornmeal

2 Tablespoons of salt

Nice dash of cayenne pepper

2 Tablespoons of paprika

Smoky Mountains Parsons Branch road opens to the public.

Smoky Mountain Parsons Branch Road Opens after a six year closure. GSMNP officials celebrated the reopening of Parson Branch Road with a ribbon-cutting event honoring the work crew and Friends of the Smokies who provided funding. The historic gravel road, originally constructed in 1838, is now reopened to the public after a six-year closure.

Smoky Mountain Volunteers Needed! GSMNP is searching for volunteers to assist Trails Forever trail crews. Work will concentrate on the Ramsey Cascades Trail rehabilitation project. Volunteers are needed every Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., starting Wednesday, May 25, 2022, and continuing through Wednesday, September 28, 2022. Volunteers must register in advance.

Big Creek trail closure. A temporary, weekday closure of Big Creek Trail to repair the popular horse and hiker trail will be in effect Monday through Thursday, excluding federal holidays through Thursday, July 14 to safely conduct the rehabilitation work. The trail will be fully open Friday through Sunday each week.
